EC bars TMC LS candidate Yusuf Pathan from using 2011 World Cup's photos for campaign

Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Berhampore Yusuf Pathan went to campaign in his constituency on Saturday. Pathan, who has been contesting against veteran Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury, also paid a visit to local party office and spoke to TMC leaders.

A day before former cricketer was barred by the Election Commission of India (ECI) from using pictures from India’s triumphant campaign in the 2011 ODI World Cup during his poll campaign.

On March 26, the Congress leadership had approached the office of the Chief Electoral Officer in West Bengal, accusing Pathan of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by using photos of Sachin Tendulkar during his campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections.

After a thorough evaluation of the complaint, sources in the CEO’s office, reportedly, said India’s victory in the 2011 ODI World Cup was a matter of pride for every Indian. However, the sentiment should not be exploited to reap political dividends, ahead of the polls.

Pathan, who is the elder brother of former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan, was part of the India team led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
