Indian badminton star PV Sindhu advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the women's singles event at the Olympic Games after defeating Kristin Kuuba of Estonia in straight sets on Wednesday.

 

The two-time Olympic medalist won her second and final Group M match with scores of 21-5 and 21-10.

 

Sindhu, who had previously defeated Fathimath Abdul Razzaq of Maldives 21-9, 21-6 in her first match, finished at the top of her group.

 

The top performer from each of the 16 groups moves on to the round of 16.

 

The acclaimed Indian athlete secured a silver medal in the 2016 Rio Games and a bronze in the Tokyo Games.
