Former LS Speaker and Maharashtra CM Manohar Joshi passes away

Manohar Joshi, the former Lok Sabha Speaker and ex-Maharashtra chief minister passed away at a hospital in Mumbai on Friday after experiencing a cardiac arrest.

 

He had been admitted to the ICU of P D Hinduja Hospital on Wednesday and succumbed to his illness at the private medical facility, according to family sources.

 

At the age of 86, Joshi had been in critical condition, as stated by the hospital in a Thursday statement.

 

He was previously admitted to the same hospital in May last year due to a brain haemorrhage. Joshi, a prominent figure in the Shiv Sena, served as chief minister from 1995 to 1999 and was the first leader from the undivided Shiv Sena to hold the top post in the state.

 

Additionally, he served as a Member of Parliament and held the position of Lok Sabha Speaker from 2002 to 2004 during the tenure of the Vajpayee government.
