J&K police in Samba has registered 11 FIRs against homeowners and landowners in the district for violating the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita order by failing to provide necessary information about tenants and other outsiders residing in their property.
The verification drive was initiated to check the backgrounds of individuals staying as tenants and domestic helpers.
During this operation, five cases were registered at Samba Police Station, three at Ghagwal Police Station, and three at Vijaypur Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The District Magistrate of Samba had previously issued orders mandating that property owners complete police verification of their tenants. This move aligns with efforts to enhance security and monitor the influx of outsiders in the region.
According to the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, property owners are legally required to provide detailed information about tenants to the local police.
This law aims to ensure that the authorities can keep track of individuals residing in rented accommodation, thereby preventing any potential security threats.
Senior police officials have emphasised the importance of compliance with these regulations to maintain law and order.
The ongoing verification process is part of broader efforts to ensure that all residents are accounted for and that any suspicious activities are promptly addressed.
Failure to comply with these legal requirements can result in significant penalties, including the filing of FIRs and potential legal action against non-compliant property owners.
Samba Police is urging all property owners to cooperate with the verification process to avoid legal repercussions.
