The escalating number of deaths among Indian students abroad has become a major concern for the government, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Monday.
Addressing the issue, Jaishankar highlighted that while some incidents were the result of personal disputes, others were attributed to accidents.
Speaking to the media, Jaishankar responded to inquiries regarding the surge in violent attacks against Indian students in foreign nations, underlining the tragic nature of each incident for the families involved.
He stressed, however, that these occurrences are not interconnected.
Jaishankar outlined measures taken by embassies to safeguard students, including regular communication and advisories regarding risky areas within cities.
With an estimated 11 to 12 lakh Indian students residing overseas, ensuring their welfare remains a top priority for the government.
"Student welfare is paramount. Every Indian student abroad enjoys the guarantee of the Modi government," Jaishankar affirmed.
