An Indian national residing in Singapore has been charged with repeatedly stabbing a six-year-old boy with a pen at a local childcare centre, resulting in injuries to the child’s face and scalp.
The 43-year-old woman, a permanent resident of Singapore, faces one count of ill-treating a child under the Children and Young Persons Act.
The court has imposed a strict gag order, preventing the publication of any details that could identify the victim, the accused, or the location of the incident, as reported by Channel News Asia.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on November 16, 2022, when the woman allegedly attacked the boy in her care, leaving him with multiple abrasions: a 1-cm-long mark on his scalp, a 2-cm-long abrasion over his eyebrow ridge, and another 1.5-cm-long wound on his scalp.
The accused has indicated her intention to plead guilty. She has been released on bail set at SGD 15,000 and is due to appear in court again in June.
If convicted, the woman could face a prison term of up to eight years, a fine of up to SGD 8,000, or both.
