India sends humanitarian aid to Cuba

India dispatched 90 tonnes of pharmaceutical ingredients to Cuba on Sunday as part of its humanitarian assistance to the island nation, which has been facing severe shortages of essential goods, food items, and medicines.

 

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, "The government of India is extending humanitarian assistance to the government of the Republic of Cuba. A consignment of approximately 90 tonnes of nine Made in India Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) left Mundra port on June 2."

 

The ministry added that these APIs will enable Cuban drug manufacturers to produce essential antibiotics in the form of tablets, capsules, syrups, and injections, crucial for treating chronic communicable diseases.

 

The MEA emphasised that this assistance reaffirms India's status as the "Pharmacy of the World" and highlights its commitment to its longstanding friendship with Cuba.
