A tragic incident occurred in Israeli-controlled Majdal Shams, where a rocket attack led to the deaths of 12 people. The attack, allegedly carried out by Iran-backed Hezbollah, has been reported by The Jerusalem Post. Among the deceased were children and teenagers, ranging in age from 10 to 20 years old.
The rocket struck a soccer field near a playground in Majdal Shams, a large Druze town. The impact was devastating, with the blast killing 12 people and injuring at least 19 others.
Of those injured, six were reported to be in serious condition, three were moderately injured, and ten sustained minor injuries, including some who were treated for anxiety attacks. Magen David Adom (MDA) teams, along with IDF helicopters, swiftly transported the injured to hospitals.
In response to the high number of casualties, MDA provided around 100 doses and blood components to hospitals and urged the public to donate blood throughout the week to help meet the demand.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a situational assessment and confirmed that the rocket launch was carried out by Hezbollah. According to IDF intelligence, the rocket was fired from an area north of the village of Chebaa in southern Lebanon. This assessment was based on the analysis of the IDF’s operational systems.
The scene at the soccer field was described as chaotic and distressing. Senior MDA medic Idan Avshalom reported significant destruction and fires, with victims scattered across the grass.
The medical teams quickly began triaging and treating the injured. Some victims were initially taken to local clinics, where additional medical teams were dispatched.
In the wake of the attack, alarms were activated in the Majdal Shams area in the Northern Galilee at 6:18 pm, alerting residents to the danger. The Israel Police responded to several locations in the north of the Golan where shrapnel had fallen.
The Chief of the General Staff, Lt.-Gen. Herzi Halevi, along with other senior military officials, including the Northern Command’s Commanding Officer Major-General Ori Gordin, conducted situational assessments and visited the incident site in Majdal Shams to evaluate the damage and coordinate the response.
This rocket attack highlights the ongoing tension and violence in the region, further straining the already volatile relations between Israel and Hezbollah. The loss of innocent lives, particularly children and teenagers, underscores the tragic human cost of this conflict.
