About nine persons, including two children and their mother, were injured after a man opened fire at a water park near Detroit, Michigan, in the United States on Saturday evening. He was later found dead, news outlets reported Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard as saying at a press conference.

The incident took place at a water park and the gun used in the shooting was recovered at the scene.

The injured children, both believed to be siblings, included an eight-year-old boy who was in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head. The other four-year-old with a thigh wound was stable.

Their mother, with abdomen and leg wounds, was also in critical condition.

The other six victims, including three women and three men, aged between 30 to 78 years old, were  reported to be stable.

The shooter drove up to Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad park, in Rochester Hills, Michigan in the evening at 5 pm local time (2100 GMT), exited the vehicle and fired about 30 shots from a 9mm semi-automatic Glock, Bouchard said.

The suspected shooter, 42, was found at the home he shared with his mother after police tracked down the gun to an address in the area. What motivated him to commit the crime or the reason for his death was not immediately clear.
