Annual Guru Purnima makes a return at NMACC

The second edition of ‘Parampara' commenced with the foot-tapping showcase of 'Ghatam Symphony', featuring three generations of one legacy family.

The second leg of the annual program of Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, namely, Parampara, witnessed the celebrations of Guru Purnima starting July 20th.

 

To honour the timeless Indian tradition of Guru-Shishya envisioned to preserve and promote India's rich cultural heritage among the future generations.

 

The celebrations will stretch on to the next weekend with more curated line-up of Indian Classical music and dance.

 

The program was inaugurated by Nita Ambani, adorning an elegant silhouette of white-and-gold Kasavu saree from Swadesh.

 

Her saree was crafted by the talented artisans of Kerala over 20 days,  handloom weave with a tissue pallu, magnificent border, and intricate details of meena kari butta made a simple but sophisticated statement.

 

Expressing her views on the occasion, she mentioned, “for everyone, our parents are our first gurus.

 

They devote their life with single-minded focus for our well-being and happiness. And in my journey, I am deeply grateful for the role my parents have played in making me the person I am today.”

 

She further mentioned how her father’s hard work and compassion have had great influence on her. 

 

“My father’s compassion and my mother’s dedication and hard work have had a great influence on me. They nurtured me with love, guidance, and invaluable life lessons.”

 

She added, “After I got married, the biggest influence in my life has been my father-in-law, Dhirubhai Ambani.

 

He always emphasised the importance of being disciplined, focused, persistent and tireless in chasing one’s dreams. I have also learnt many invaluable lessons from my mother-in-law Smt. Kokilaben Ambani.”

Ghatam is a unique Indian Classical percussion instrument - the audience witnessed a mesmerising performance by 'Vikku's 3G', as Grammy winning father-son duo T.H. Vinayakram and V. Selvaganesh, along with grandson Swaminathan and 15 talented students drummed up a euphoric atmosphere inside The Grand Theatre. 

 

Nita Ambani is trained as a Bharatanatyam dancer since the age of 5. As a lifelong student of the arts, Nita started training under the aegis of Guru Menaka Desai, followed by Guru Arjun Desai, and then her Gurus K. Kalayanasundaram and Mythili maami from Sri Rajarajeswari Bharatha Natya Kala Mandir. 

 

At the age of 40, Guru Deepak Mazumdar reinvigorated her dedication towards mastering the artform, bringing her back to the stage.
