Prez Murmu serves 'dahi-cheeni' to Sitharaman before Budget

On Tuesday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan before heading to Parliament to present the Union Budget for 2024-25.

 

Continuing a longstanding tradition, President Murmu offered 'dahi-chini' (curd-sugar), considered auspicious, to Sitharaman before her departure.

 

Following this, the Union Cabinet convened to clear the Budget. The final approval by the Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will take place just before the presentation in Parliament.

 

Expectations are high as Sitharaman prepares to present her seventh Budget in the Lok Sabha. This Budget will not only reflect the Modi government's achievements over the past decade but also outline the roadmap to transform India into a developed nation.

 

Maintaining the tradition she established in 2019, Sitharaman carried her budget speech in a 'bahi-khata' (ledger book) style pouch, abandoning the briefcase tradition. Inside, she keeps a digital tablet.
