India's travel and tourism sector, which experienced notable growth post-Covid-19, is projected to generate 58.2 million jobs nationwide by 2033, a recent report revealed on Monday.

 

In 2020, amid the pandemic, the tourism industry provided employment for 39 million individuals, constituting 8% of the country's total workforce. Notably, talent demand within this sector surged by 44% in August of the preceding year, as reported by NBL Services, a global technology and digital talent solutions provider.

 

Functioning as a crucial source of foreign exchange, the travel and tourism industry contributed Rs 15.9 trillion ($191.25 billion) to India's economy in 2022, with an estimated increase to Rs 16.5 trillion in 2023.

 

The report highlighted several job roles expected to remain in demand, with year-on-year increases, including sales (18%), business development (17%), chefs (15%), travel consultants (15%), tour operators (15%), wildlife experts (12%), and transportation providers (15%).

 

Geographically, the top five states attracting domestic tourists are Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.

 

According to the report, key cities driving the surge in hiring include Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, and Kochi. Additionally, tier two cities such as Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and Chandigarh are witnessing notable activity.

 

Over the next nine years, the report anticipates new job opportunities emerging in Gujarat, Lakshadweep, and West Bengal, alongside continued growth in existing markets.
